从密斯的话中可以看出来，他强调的是“构建”。把“构建”本身当作美的本质，是其境界。
大家知道老年的密斯是一个爱抽雪茄的大胖子（穿黑西装），这一点和丘吉尔很相像，依他的逻辑，他的衣服除了起保温的作用外，别的都是多余的。雪茄成为他形象的一部分，但他抽烟只是为了过瘾。(晦涩吧，其实很哲学)
然而，当一味地极端追求本质要素的时候，房子将盛不下最简单的肉体。
